Art of Old India’s warehouse sale, benefiting Paws in the City, in The Dallas Morning News.
Since 1974, Art of Old India has been importing unique home furnishings and accessories from all over the world to help local tastemakers create eclectic interiors.
The Dallas Design District showroom, which operated inside the World Trade Center for 30 years, hosts its first warehouse sale Friday and Saturday. A rare mix of Indian and Middle Eastern furniture and decorative accessories will be sold to the public at cost.
“We really need to clear out our warehouse to make room for new inventory,” says showroom owner Rupal Dalal. “There are many pieces in the sale that were once hard to find but have now become readily available. We try not to sell items that are available everywhere, so we would like to clear out those pieces in order to keep our inventory unique and full of hard-to-find pieces.”
Dalal says to expect about 400 items at the event, including candlesticks, antique architectural elements, textiles, dhurrie and kilim rugs and large, wood furniture pieces. His father takes three trips a year to acquire inventory, which is handmade and either a new, commissioned piece or an old treasure plucked from historic mansions and temples around India, Afghanistan, Turkey and East Africa.
For the two-day show, prices are marked significantly below retail, ranging from about $30 for accent pillow covers and hand-painted wood boxes to $850 and up for large antique furniture, such as a bookshelf made from antique wood doors and a hand-carved mother-of-pearl tabletop.
Ten percent of profits will be directed to Paws in the City, a Dallas nonprofit that works to end pet overpopulation, abuse and neglect. The sale, open to the public, is Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1030 Dragon.
